Volunteers
Our friendly group of volunteers can be found helping at the circulation desk, shelving returned and new materials, and doing other assorted tasks. Most volunteers do so on a regular basis so they know the routine of checking books in and out, etc. However, we welcome any time you may have to offer. You may be able to come in once a month, be a substitute, or help out seasonally if you are a “snow-bird”. Maybe you would like to start an after school, children’s or teen activity or reading group. If you are interested in helping, ask our Director about joining us.
Special Projects
If you want to help out, but cannot commit on a regular basis, perhaps there are other ways you can donate your time or skills. For instance, we can always use more bakers for our annual Cookie Walk in December, or the Bake, Book and Plant Sale held Memorial Day weekend. We also would be delighted to have you donate extra plants (annuals, perennials and house plants) for that sale. Or perhaps you can come help us sort books or set up during those or other events.
Other projects might be yard work, leading a group or teaching a class of your interest. Run your ideas by us. We are always open to new ideas!
We have CLYNK bags in the library which you can use to donate your bottles and cans for recycling at Hannaford Supermarkets. They already have a sticker on them, which will direct the total return money to our account. Just here for a visit and going home soon? If you leave the bag by our back door we will take it to the store for you. See more information on how it works here.
Donated Materials
The library does have a policy for accepting donated materials. For instance, while we welcome books that we might add to our collection, most will probably go into our annual Bake, Book & Plant Sale. Periodically the extras are brought to a bookseller or Goodwill. But, we cannot use old encyclopedias or books in poor conditions for instance. So please ask or check with our Director or our policy on donations.
Monetary Donations
The library relies on volunteer donations to fund the materials, building maintenance and programs. While the town votes each year as to what it can give, roughly two-thirds of our budget comes from our Annual Appeal and other fundraisers. We are very grateful for and dependent on our patrons’ support. You can donate by check or cash delivered to the library, or online with a PayPal account or credit/debit card. We are grateful for all donations and will send out a thank you and tax donation form for anything you can give.
We also have an Endowment Policy and a small account established with memorial donations to honor loved ones and friends we have lost. Please consider the library in your Estate Planning, either in direct donations or to the Endowment Fund. Our Director can provide you with a copy of our Gift Acceptance Policy and Endowment Policy.
Annual Appeal
All property owners are sent an Annual Appeal letter the first of the year. These donations , and those of other friends, arrive all year and we need, welcome and appreciate the generosity of our donors. If you would like your name added to our mailing list, please give it to our Director.
